Dr. Maya Cobb LPC, ACS, NCC
Dr. Maya Cobb is the founder and owner of Journey to Clarity Counseling, Complete Clarity Child Wellness Center, and Dear Good Girl. As a therapist, clinical supervisor, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Cobb is passionate about helping individuals heal from the emotional patterns they were taught to normalize. Her work focuses heavily on intergenerational trauma, self-worth development, childhood experiences, attachment, and the long-term impact family systems have on identity and relationships.
My Story
Dr. Cobb’s clinical approach is rooted in authenticity, cultural responsiveness, and holistic healing. She integrates insight-oriented therapy with approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-based work, psychodynamic therapy, and narrative therapy while meeting clients where they are emotionally and culturally. She is especially passionate about supporting Black women, mother-daughter healing, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and helping clients reconnect with themselves outside of survival mode.
Driven by her belief that mental health care should be accessible to all people, Dr. Cobb created Journey to Clarity’s Walk-In Therapy program to help reduce barriers that often prevent individuals and families from receiving support. The program was designed to offer same-day access to mental health services without the long waitlists, financial pressure, or complicated systems that can discourage people from seeking help. Through the use of clinical interns under direct supervision, partnerships with licensed clinicians, and community-focused care models, Dr. Cobb has worked to create opportunities for individuals to receive therapy regardless of where they are in their healing journey or financial circumstances.
What started as a vision in the sunroom of her home has grown into two thriving office suites serving children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families throughout the community. Under Dr. Cobb’s leadership, the practices now include a multidisciplinary team of therapists, clinical interns, administrative professionals, and leadership staff dedicated to increasing access to quality mental health care. She also developed “Psych-Based Tutoring,” an innovative model created through Complete Clarity Child Wellness Center that integrates emotional and behavioral support into academic tutoring services to better support students as whole individuals.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cobb serves as a clinical supervisor and mentor to counseling interns and emerging therapists. Her research and professional work explore themes related to the Strong Black Woman Schema, self-worth, intergenerational patterns, and the mother-daughter relationship. Through her platforms, speaking engagements, workshops, and future publications, Dr. Cobb continues to advocate for healing spaces where people can fully embrace their authentic selves without shame, code-switching, or the pressure to perform worthiness.
